To do or not to do

I love that this mousepad/to-do list from Knock Knock is separated by the day of the week...my only complaint is that the snowball in hell category is not big enough...we all know that is where most things end up on a to do list anyway, right?

Happy Leap Year!

My friend Alana's husband Bob has the coolest birthday...he's a leap year baby...I am a bit mathematically challenged, but I think he is 9 (in leap years) today!

I'm a 13 year old girl again...

...Rick Springfield was on Oprah this week. I'm not covering my bedroom walls with posters anymore, but he is almost 60 years old and still makes me a bit weak in my knees...

This post isn't exactly about shopping, but he is touring and you can buy tickets online if you want to see him perform Jessie's Girl in person...

I am a sucker for marketing

Therefore, it should be no surprise that I have to have The Ultimate Coffee Cup. I was going to list all of the reasons I am drawn to this cup, but decided to mention only my favorite one...

The undulating rim fits the lips better and prevents spills on the side opposite the handle.

How can you not love a mug with that description? It is also lead-free, microwave and dishwasher safe, and the saucers double as lids for space saving stacking.

Keep this in your glove compartment

David Zinczenko, editor in chief of Men's Health magazine and frequent Today Show guest, has co-written a really cool non-diet book. Eat This Not That: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds-or More! is a great resource for anyone who has to "eat on the go". The 300 page book is almost exclusively comprised of glossy photographs comparing fast food choices. I think many people will be surprised to learn that the McDonald's Quarter Pounder® is a better choice than the Premium Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich. And, if you are worried that this book is not for you because you don't eat fast food...never fear - it also includes smart choices at the grocery store as well as other restaurants.

I use a lot of binders at work...

...and will use whatever we have lying around the office - the basic white ones. But, I was in OfficeMax a few weeks ago and picked up a few new Avery binders. Apparently the Heavy-Duty Reference EZD View Binders are great because they have multiple pockets, a back mounted ring so the pages lie flat and you can open or close the ring with one hand. Personally, I just like the cool colors (green, pink, or purple) and the jealous looks I get from my colleagues...

Feel good about that drink...

I love these earrings from Smart Glass Jewelry...yes, they are super cute...the best part is that they are made from recycled bottles...check out the whole site to see the other amazing things Kathleen Plate can do with your old beer bottles...

Run, don't walk...

...to CVS before my friend Susann buys all of the deeply discounted Valentine's Day candy...I think she stocks up on conversation hearts to last her until next year...

Tastes great, less filling...

I am so in love with the soap and hand lotion from Daub & Bauble. Each fragrance choice (Mission Fig & Thyme, Sorrento Lemon & Ginger, Tarocco Orange & Clove) are available in three design choices. Have fun mixing and matching them...And, they smell even better than they look and the scents are not too overpowering. Another nice thing is that the pump does not dispense too much soap so you will not waste half of the bottle with just one hand washing. But, whenever you do finish the bottle, it is 100% recyclable...

You can buy it online at eBubbles and if you use the code freeship25, you will get free shipping on any order over $25 (until February 26th).

A green ferret mission

The Mission:

Jodi says, "I need to find something on the internet and since you are the internet queen I thought you could help me and maybe help others through your blog! I want to stop using plastic bags in the grocery store and trying to find cute and cheap reusable bags. I really don't want to get a Trader Joe's or Publix bags (even though they are $.99) because, and you may laugh, if I am at Kroger it would be weird to have a Publix bag! My husband makes fun of me for this, so feel free..."

The Solution:

Jodi, I wouldn't dream of making fun of you! And, kudos to you for doing your part to help our planet...some of my personal favorites are not as affordable as your $.99 Publix bag, but they are much more fun and most of them fit in a small pouch so you can keep them in your purse or car...

I really love the bags from Envirosax...they have a great selection and are very lightweight.

Another favorite is Baggu...I love their site - you can mix and match your bag color choices...

Reisenthel bags have nice long straps and cute floral designs...or, solid colors if you your husband would prefer something more simple...

Or, if monograms are your thing, check out the totes from Garnet Hill...

Final Plea from The Ferret:

For those of you who are not ready to take the plunge like Jodi did, please consider recycling your plastic bags - check here for drop off locations in your state.

The average family brings home 1,000 bags every year. Most of those bags end up in land fills. That really adds up - 100 billion plastic bags are sent to landfill in the US each year. In landfills, it can take up to 1000 years for a bag to decompose. Plastics don't biodegrade, they photo-degrade, breaking down into tiny toxic pieces that contaminate soil and water or harm wildlife.

And, as an aside...paper bags aren't so great either...there are pros and cons for plastic vs. paper (i.e. paper bags can be made from recycled paper, but plastic bags can be recycled into composite lumber as well as other things)...so, just buy your own cool bags and convince your friends to do the same...

The downward spiral...

For those of you who want to reenact the daily life of a certain unnamed pop star, you will love the Paparazzi Play Set from Urban Outfitters...

Sorry, but the set doesn't come with hair extensions, cigarettes or gum to smack...

More affordable than roses...

...and, less calories than chocolate...the Hugs & Kisses Duck is a great gift for your valentine. Or, check out some of the other luxury duck options if your special someone is a tad punk or mod...

And, along with your duck of choice, I would add the Farmaesthetics Vapor Bath Elixir for a most perfect Valentine's Day gift...

How funny are these Mission Accomplished bags? Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, I think you might enjoy using these when cleaning up after your pup...

If you ate too much at your Super Bowl party...

...you might want to check out the Yummie Tummie tank...to the outside observer, it looks like any old layering tank...but, the secret is the firm control minimizing panel from the bust to the hips. I haven't tried it yet, but have heard good things about it...from real people who have tried it - not just the company marketing materials...

It isn't cheap, but it is much more affordable than a tummy tuck, right?

I wish I had my camera with me today...

...so you could see how cute my nephew Zachary looks in his Lark and Loon "Jam Session" tee! So far, he only has one of their shirts, but he looks so cute that I may need to buy more. Lark and Loon commissioned artists across the country to create wearable art...meaning your child won't show up at school wearing the same thing as all of their friends. They also give money to Americans for the Arts Foundation, so you can feel good about buying from them...

A word of warning...the shirts run small...order a larger size than you normally would...

Top five reasons to buy these measuring spoons...

1. Each spoon has a round side and an oval side...one side is great for measuring liquids and the other works well with narrow spice jars.

2. They are plastic, but magnetized and can be stacked together to save space or you can stick them on your refrigerator...or oven as shown in the picture.

3. They are not held together by a ring...you can use one teaspoon without being forced to wash all of the other spoons.

4. Many recipes call for the same measurement of multiple ingredients...because these spoons are double sided you have two sets of spoons!

5. They have flat bottoms...so, you can sit a full spoon on the counter and not worry about spills...
